Fight the Flu with Good Habits

February 15, 2016

FASTLane of Zachary Urgent Care, 19900 Old Scenic Highway, is now offering flu vaccinations for patients ages four and older.

“The best ways to avoid getting the flu are to practice good health habits and get vaccinated each year,” says Dr. Allison Parkman, Medical Director at FASTLane of Zachary Urgent Care.

“Getting a flu vaccine is the first and most important step in preventing the flu, especially for young children, pregnant women, those with chronic health, heart or lung problems, and people 65 and older.  Flu shots are now available at most physician offices, including FASTLane.”

To stay healthy, try to always practice these healthy habits:

Keep away
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. And do the same when you don't feel well. A safe distance can help prevent the spread of bugs and germs that cause infection.

Stay home when you're sick
If possible, avoid work, school and errands when you are sick. This way, others won't catch what you've got.

Cover up when you cough or sneeze
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. It may help keep those around you from getting sick.

Wash and dry your hands often
Use warm water with antibacterial soap or hand sanitizing gels to clean your hands. And be sure to dry them to help protect you from germs.

Don't touch your eyes, nose or mouth
Germs spread when a person touches something that is contaminated and then touches his or her eyes, nose or mouth.

$35 flu vaccinations for patients ages four and older are now available at FASTLane of Zachary Urgent Care, 19900 Old Scenic Highway.  For more information call 225-570-2618 or visit FASTLaneClinic.org.
