Lane Regional Medical Center Welcomes Local High School Students for Summer Healthcare Program

Lane Regional Medical Center, in collaboration with the Central Louisiana Area Health Education Center (AHEC), is proud to host the “A-HEC of a Summer” program — a hands-on summer volunteer experience designed to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals.

This exciting program offers high school students in grades 9 through 11, who maintain at least a 2.0 GPA, a unique opportunity to explore careers in healthcare.

Eight students from local schools — Zachary High, Baker High, Central Private, St. Joseph’s Academy, and Catholic High — will spend three weeks at Lane, rotating through a variety of hospital departments and shadowing healthcare professionals. Participants gain valuable insights into medical careers, learn about current health issues, practice basic patient care skills, and earn CPR certification.

“This program gives students a rare and meaningful look inside the world of healthcare,” said Brittany Casey, RN, BSN, Director of Professional Development and Operational Initiatives at Lane Regional Medical Center. “We’re proud to help shape future healthcare leaders by providing early exposure to the skills, compassion, and dedication the field demands.”

Lane is proud to support the educational growth of these promising students and help ignite their passion for healthcare.
