Lane Regional Medical Center today announced a series of organizational changes designed to strengthen the hospital's long-term financial stability and ensure its ability to continue serving patients and families throughout the region.
As part of these efforts, Lane eliminated 14 positions across the organization, including staff, leadership, and physician roles, and made the difficult decision to discontinue one specialty service that no longer had sufficient patient volume to remain sustainable.
"These were extraordinarily difficult decisions, and among the most challenging we have faced as an organization," said Frank Corcoran, Chief Executive Officer of Lane Regional Medical Center. "We recognize the impact these actions have on dedicated employees who have faithfully served our patients and community. We are deeply grateful for their contributions and are committed to supporting them with dignity, compassion, and respect."
Like healthcare providers across Louisiana and the nation, Lane continues to face significant financial pressures, including rising operating costs, workforce challenges, and reimbursement rates that have not kept pace with the cost of delivering care. Hospital leadership said the actions announced today follow a thorough evaluation of available options and were taken only after exhausting other reasonable alternatives.
Despite these changes, Lane emphasized that the hospital remains fully operational and continues to provide comprehensive healthcare services to the community.
"Our commitment to patient care remains unchanged," Corcoran said. "Patients can continue to access the high-quality care they expect from Lane, and our physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals remain focused on delivering excellent outcomes and an exceptional patient experience."
Lane also confirmed that it continues to explore a potential strategic affiliation with another healthcare organization. The hospital believes identifying the right partner could help enhance financial stability, support physician recruitment, expand healthcare services, and preserve local access to care for future generations.
Hospital leaders stressed that no decisions regarding a strategic affiliation have been finalized and that the evaluation process remains ongoing.
"We are taking proactive steps today to help position Lane for a stronger future," Corcoran said. "While these decisions are painful, they are intended to preserve our mission and ensure that Lane remains a trusted healthcare resource for this community for years to come."
